Project Guidelines


The following list is an overview of project guidelines and is not all-inclusive:​


  • All projects must be reviewed and approved by appropriate City staff

  • ​Project approval may be required by the Grow HB Project Review Committee prior to implementation​

  • Volunteer waivers are required for all program participants​

  • No permanent structures allowed without City Council approval​

  • Workdays must be scheduled with Volunteer Site Coordinator, and may require coordination with the City’s Public Works staff and/or the Project Program Coordinator

  • ​All donations (materials or in-kind labor) must be reported and approved

  • Project Branding - Pre-Approved City branding must appear on all signage



Safety Guidelines


All outdoor project volunteers must follow City of Huntington Beach Parks Use Rules and Regulations or Municipal Codes, as appropriate, and


  • Work only during daylight hours - teams of 2+ people are preferred for most projects​

  • Wear bright clothing, closed-toed shoes, gloves, a hat and sunscreen for protection

  • ​Stay hydrated and take breaks frequently

  • ​Children are to be supervised at all times (be mindful of the work environment when determining if a child should be present at a project site)

  • ​Do not bring pets to project sites

  • ​Do not handle sharp, suspicious, or hazardous items​

    • Call Police Department if you find drug paraphernalia

    • Call Fire Department if you find medical/biohazard waste

  • ​Lift all objects with your legs; not with your back

  • ​Stay within the designated project areas as approved by the City
